Common Tooth Profiles
for Carbide-Tipped Sawblades

of adjacent saw tips on a circular sawblade.

FLAT TOP
Grinds used mainly for sawing with the grain, as in ripping lumber.

ATB
Typical of crosscut blades for wood. The sharp angles formed by the top bevel helps sever wood fiber.

TC
TC grinds and variations of it are usually found on blades for composition panels (particleboard, MDF, etc.) and other man-made materials such as plastics, and non-ferrous metals. The TC grinds are more durable in dense materials. They may also be used on wood, but may not cut as cleanly as ATB blades on cross-grain and mitre cuts.

ATBR
Typically used on combination rip/crosscut blades which have teeth grouped in a 5-tooth pattern. Blades for single and double mitre saws also frequently have an ATBR grind, but with teeth spaced evenly, not grouped.
